Nappy Bins That Keep the Smell In

Hi, I'm Sarah, a pharmacist and mum. In the newborn months you can go through 8 to 12 nappies a day, and a regular kitchen bin just can't keep up with the smell. A good nappy bin seals odours in, keeps germs contained and saves you running to the outside bin after every change.

Why I love the Ubbi steel nappy bin

  • Steel, not plastic. Plastic absorbs odours over time. Steel doesn't, so the bin stays fresh for years.
  • No special refill bags. It works with regular kitchen bin bags, which saves money every week.
  • Sliding lid. Rubber seals and a sliding lid stop smells escaping each time you open it.
  • Childproof lock. Curious toddlers can't get in.
  • Looks good in the nursery. Available in matte colours to suit your room.

Nappy change essentials

Alongside our nappy bins you'll find the things that make every change easier:

  • Nappy caddies to keep nappies, wipes and creams together on the change table
  • Travel change mats for clean changes on the go
  • Wet bags for dirty clothes, swimwear and cloth nappies when you're out
  • Tooshies bamboo nappies in every size from newborn to walker

My tips for an odour-free nursery

  • Fold soiled nappies up tightly and fasten the tabs before binning.
  • Tip solids from older babies' nappies into the toilet first.
  • Empty the bin every one to two days, and more often in hot weather.
  • Wipe the inside of the bin with warm soapy water when you change the bag.
  • Keep the bin out of direct sun and away from heaters.

Nappy bin FAQs

Do I really need a nappy bin?

You don't have to have one, but most parents find it makes life much easier. It keeps the nursery smelling fresh and saves trips outside after every change, especially at night.

What is the best nappy bin for odour control?

Look for a sealed lid and a material that doesn't absorb smells. Steel bins like the Ubbi are a popular choice in Australia for exactly this reason.

Do I need special bags?

Not with the Ubbi. It takes regular kitchen bin bags, so there are no costly refill cartridges.

How often should I empty a nappy bin?

Every one to two days for most families. In summer, or once your baby starts solids, empty it daily.
